The Senior Systems Engineer role typically furnishes the left-hand side of the V-cycle, working with and collating customer requirements and defining the product requirements. Specifically, the derivation and management of System, Legislative, Functional and Safety requirements. 

You will work closely with other engineering disciplines, both internally and externally to determine safe, reliable, effective, and efficient solutions to customer requirements. You will be responsible for gaining customer acceptance of any deviations / compromises to meet customer prioritisation of requirements, identified through scientifically robust concept studies, completed within the Petalite cross functional team.

This role includes creating architectural designs, and managing interfaces between subsystems, and creating performance metrics to measure the definition of done. Additionally, you will be required to create specification and execution of tests to verify both the proposed and implemented solution(s) meets the customer requirements.

Responsibilities:

  • Acceptance, decomposition, and management of customer requirement specifications. Where Petalite acceptance may require multiple stages of evaluation to develop a concept through system modelling and simulation.
  • Provide technical direction on all applications of Petalite’s unique technology, both remotely and in person, based on sound engineering principles, practices, applied standards and regulations.
  • Provide technical direction for cross-functional issues, coordinating engineering disciplines, to improve or resolve manufacturing, product, application, Integration, Installation, or field issues.
  • Provide technical direction, and training to new and / or experienced engineers, specialists, technicians, when required.
  • Work with Program & Product Management to specify, plan, conduct and review testing of new software, hardware, and Installations.
  • Ensure appropriate use of proven system analysis and design methodologies, to develop system design specifications, strategy, and algorithms that meets the requirements.
  • Structured problem solving from first principles and mentoring Junior engineers.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement and effect change.

    Key Requirements:

    • Degree-qualified in a relevant Science or Engineering discipline.
    • Minimum of 5 years proven Systems or Applications or HIL experience, within automotive electrification / renewable energy / charging infrastructure industry.
    • Proven experience of System design and analysis, Requirements, Architecture creation, component decomposition, and management of requirements including generating KPI’s for traceability.
    • Proven experience in Documentation and Specification: Writing detailed specifications for systems and components. Suitable for a Software engineer to generate code, and a test engineer to verify.
    • Proven experience in system analysis techniques for fault detecting, by performing & supporting the development of System analysis tools, e.g, FMEA, FTA, HARA etc.
    • Proven experience in planning, executing, and reviewing testcases of new software, hardware and calibration, specifically integration testing & regression testing.
    • Proven experience in Test & measurement specification and design, including creation, execution, and verifying against requirements
    • Experience of CAN, UDS. XCP and associated toolchains (e.g. Vector, INCA, PEAK).
    • Experience of basic electronic hardware techniques and an ability to interpret circuit schematics.
    • Experience and ability to consider problems, and root cause using modern technique such as 8D, Ishikawa Fishbone Diagrams, and 5 Why analysis.
    • Effective communicator (written and verbal) for project and technical discussion with internal and external stakeholders.
